Course Attendance Requirement

In line with general University guidelines, the Center for Language Education’s official minimum attendance requirement for all LANG non-elective courses is 80% (inclusive of the Add/Drop period).

If you miss 6 or more classes, you will fail the course and will have to retake it. A letter will be sent to you and the relevant department(s), and ARR will be notified.

Special cases:

If you provide acceptable documentary evidence (e.g. a doctor’s letter) to support a request for extended leave for such reasons as hospitalization, absences will not be counted.

Attendance for Course Assessments

If you are absent for a course assessment, you will not be offered a make-up test.

Special cases:

  1. If you miss a course assessment because of illness, you may apply for a make-up test if you can provide a medical certificate that gives you sick leave for the day of the assessment. In such cases, you must contact your instructor with your request and supporting documents within 24 hours of missing the assessment.
  2. If you miss a final ELPA test because of illness, you may apply for a make-up test if you can provide a medical certificate that gives you sick leave for the day of the test. In such cases, your application should be sent directly to <grade@ust.hk> in the Academic Records and Registration Office.
