• to further enhance students’ confidence and competence in Chinese communication through practice with particular emphasis on both oral and written communications involving demanding language structures, functions, and situations, and more advanced and comprehensive listening, speaking, reading and writing skills training;
• to help them further develop listening and speaking skills for communicating in Putonghua for social, cultural, and professional purposes through a range of learning activities; and
• to further enhance their reading and writing skills through different learning tasks and activities.

Listening:

• understand a dialogue on a city description
• understand experiences and feelings of young people’s urban life
• understand dialogues and phrases regarding geographical environment, natural resources, economic development and cultural customs

Speaking:

• describe the geographical location, population, area and history of a city
• describe the characteristics of a city

• write an essay about China to share your views with the UST community after a city tour in the Mainland
