Customizing Business Letters: Go Beyond Googled Samples

The ability to write a business letter that stands out from the readily available online samples will help you to stand out from the crowd. Your readers will be attracted to read a letter customized to their needs and specific to their situations.


This course focuses on the fundamental principles of writing effective business letters, guides you to analyze effective letters and provides you with hand-on practice in writing them. The 5 types of business letters covered include those with which:

  • you request for a favour , such as information, service and sponsorship
  • you respond to a letter of request to offer or to turn down the request
  • you voice a complaint and request for adjustment
  • you address a complaint and  rebuild relationship
  • you promote your products or services
On completion of the course, you are expected to:


  1. understand the fundamental principles of business communication
  2. master the common formats and structures of business letters
  3. be aware of the tone and style in business letters
  4. master some key skills in successfully writing the above letter types
