CVs and Cover Letters for Effective Job Applications is a 4-day course that helps you to perfect your CV and cover letter, tailor-made to a specific job that you wish to apply for.
By the end of the course, you are expected to:
- examine your strengths, skills and qualities for getting a job
- analyze the requirements, expectations and needs of a job advert in detail
- tailor-make your CV and cover letter to a particular job of your choosing
- learn about useful language techniques and strategies, including as vocabulary and expressions, to sell yourself and attract potential employers
- discover how to use appropriate language to communicate your achievements and make an impact
- persuade the employer that you are a right fit for the job
- receive personalized feedback from your instructor on your CV and cover letter, such as language, structure, content, paragraphing, formality, style and job-fit.
- Day 1: Introduction and preparation for writing a CV and cover letter
Day 2: Writing an effective CV
Day 3: Writing and effective cover letter
Day 4: Personalized one-on-one feedback from your instructor on your CV and cover letter (about 10 mins per student; compulsory)

Remarks | This course adopts a 'blended learning' mode with a number of online sessions. In those sessions, the instructor may require you to receive input, share your own work and obtain feedback online without having to come to class. Details will be announced by your instructor in the first face-to-face session. Attendance will be taken for both face-to-face sessions and online participation as specified by your instructor. |
