Socializing and Networking for Professional Success


Socializing and Networking for Professional Success focuses on the use of English for socializing with colleagues and business contacts in a multi-cultural workplace setting, which is becoming more prevalent. Content includes: introducing yourself and others, engaging in conversations, enhancing cross-cultural communication, extending and accepting invitation and hospitality, and networking by talking about topics like food.

 

After completing the course, you are expected to:
  • identify the purpose and functions of different types of social conversation in a professional context;
  • initiate, maintain and end social conversations in a workplace context;
  • use a range of grammatical structures and vocabulary to select appropriate topics, speech styles and levels of formality in conversations in a multi-cultural workplace;
  • demonstrate sensitivity in cultural differences issues.

    Remarks
    1. In view of the latest university arrangements, we accept online payment only (i.e. Visa/Master credit card) for the short courses until further notice. Once you apply for a course, you have 4 hours to complete your registration and payment. If you are unable to complete this process within 4 hours, your application becomes invalid, and you have to cancel your previous application and re-apply before the deadline.
    2. The short course will be conducted online. Please go through the guidelines here, which detail the preparation and computer equipment required, before joining in the event.
