Speaking Bilingually: An Introduction to Interpretation
The course aims to raise your awareness of how interpreting skills can help improve spoken English, and to prepare your bilingual skills for use in work situations where cross-cultural communication may be required. By the end of the course, you should be able to comprehend and generate idiomatically correct language to communicate effectively in a wide range of social and work contexts.
After completing the course, you are expected to:
- express ideas proficiently and idiomatically in spoken English through a variety of interpreting assignments.
- choose the register, tone and style appropriate to the context and purpose of communication.
- develop and practise the skills of sight translation and liaison interpreting.
- increase the size and depth of your vocabulary through various interpreting tasks.
- handle cultural references appropriately.
