This is a writing enhancement course that aims at introducing to you a range of literary techniques widely used in genres as diverse as lyrics, magazines, advertisements and poems. Through a series of guided writing practice, you will learn how to play with word choice and arrangement to convey meaning effectively.

 

• express ideas and feelings in writing by structuring sentences with parallelism, deviation, ellipsis, and substitution;
• add a metaphorical dimension to written language by using devices of comparison including simile, metaphor and personification;
• create sound effects in writing by using the techniques of alliteration, assonance, rhyme and rhythm; and
• create visual impacts in writing by analysing the relationship between form and meaning of a text as well as using appropriate format and layout.
