Embracing Difference: Connecting through effective communication

SPW-054-001

Date: Tuesday, 5 March, 2024
Time: 6:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
Registration: 8 February – 29 Feb, 2024

Room 3301 (Lift 2)

When individuals from diverse backgrounds come together, they bring with them a range of perspectives, knowledge, skills, and approaches to problem-solving. This diversity promotes innovation and development. There may, however, be some challenges associated with communicating across differences.

This 1.5-hour workshop will make participants more aware of their own cultural identity. Participants will also gain an understanding of unconscious biases and their impact on intercultural interactions. They will practise sharing personal experiences to strengthen relationships and build trust.

It is expected that upon completion of this workshop, participants will:

  • have a better understanding of themselves and their multiple identities;

  • be aware of their level of intercultural sensitivity, including possible unconscious biases;

  • have storytelling skills and strategies to engage and connect with ‘others’.
