Technical Requirements

These lessons have been designed to be viewed on Internet Explorer with a screen resolution of 800x600 pixels. The screen will not be displayed properly on other browsers.

Playing the sound files

The sound files in these lessons are encoded in MP3 format. To play these files, your computer needs:

a. Windows Media Player and Winamp, which should have been installed on most computers already; or
b the lastest version of Windows Media Player, which will enable you to play MP3 without Winamp.

You may download Winamp from http://www.winamp.com/. It is a freeware.

Displaying the IPA symbols

The IPA symbols are encoded in Lucida Sans Unicode. If you are already running on Internet Explorer and the symbols still do not display properly, that is probably because the font has not been installed on your computer. To download and install Lucida Sans Unicode, please follow these steps:

1 Download the font and save it on your computer - e.g. inside a "temp" folder.
2 Choose Start - Settings - Control Panel to locate the "Fonts" folder on your computer:
3 Open the "Fonts" folder by double clicking on it.
4 On the menu bar, choose File - Install new font.
5 Locate the font of Lucida Sans Unicode that you have saved.
6 Select the font in "List of fonts".
7 Click Ok.
