TV Channel
Three of the televisions in the video area of the Language Commons receive – on cable channel 150 – the French international channel TV5. Daily programme guides in French for the week can be found at http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/programmes/grille_hebdo.php and details of cartoons and easy-to-understand kids’ programmes at http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/jeunesse/accueil.php. After a quick revision of the days of the week in French, happy viewing.
To get the most out of your TV viewing, make sure that you choose a programme that you already have some knowledge about or strong interest in. Most of the films are summarized in the programme guide but are on late at night when the Language Commons is closed, so choose an international news report or documentary or ‘fiction’ (soap opera with English/ French subtitles) rather than “Magazine Littéraire” which is likely to be about the latest bestsellers in France – nearly impossible to follow for all but a few non-native speakers Recommended for improving your knowledge of Francophone culture as well as the French language.
You can also watch a selection of TV5 programmes online at http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/webtv/index.php.
