Post-Interview Evaluation

“I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” Thomas Edison.

It is useful to rate your own performance immediately after yourmock interview before it becomes a fuzzy memory. This will help you prepare for subsequent interviews with the same employer or with other employers.

The following checklist helps you identify some positive aspects of your performance as well as areas for improvement. Tick the ones you did.

Did you …

  • help the opening of the interview go smoothly?
  • do your “Tell me about yourself” show to your satisfaction?
  • make a strong connection between the job’s requirements and your qualifications?
  • make clear your understanding of the work involved in the job?
  • convey at least three major qualities that the interviewer should remember about you?
  • ask sensible questions?
  • smile?
  • make enough eye contact?
  • speak loudly and clearly enough for everyone to hear?
  • display confidence? If not, in which part of the interview did you lose confidence? Why?
  • display enthusiasm?
  • display motivation?
  • display an interest in the job?

Finally the last question to reflect on is:

What would you have done differently if you could replay the interview?
