Nine CLE faculty members have been recognised as Fellows of HKUST's Academy of Education Excellence (AEE), awarded by the Center for Education Innovation (CEI) to colleagues to recognize teaching which is effective, to support continuing professional development and to open up opportunities for exchange of practices across disciplines. On 9 September 2026, Eunice Tang, Mark Melican, Melissa Megan and Sheila Liang shared their experience with CLE colleagues, in a session designed to engage the next cohort of CLE applicants.  Read more

HKUST student Vasantha Subramanian reached the grand final of the second annual World Universities Public Speaking Invitational Championship, held at the University of Macau from August 27 to 31, 2026. Her achievement, supported by preparation and coaching from HKUST’s Center for Language Education (CLE), placed her among leading student speakers from 26 universities across five continents.  Read more

The Center for Language Education (CLE), in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Center, successfully organised the second Wuxi Tech Innovation Enterprises Study Tour from August 24 to 28. This five-day immersive learning experience demonstrated how university language education can extend beyond the classroom, enabling students to develop bilingual communication, digital literacy, AI-supported learning skills, and professional confidence through authentic engagement with industry and entrepreneurship.  Read more

The inaugural HKUST STEAM Busking Competition drew to a close with its Grand Final on 21 August 2026. Seven finalists took to the stage to bring their specialised knowledge to life through live performance, competing for over HK$10,000 in cash prizes. Daniel Parman took the Grand Prize.  Read more

The Center for Language Education (CLE) successfully hosted an experiential engagement event, the Micro-Hackathon 2026, on the theme AI for Language Education on 7 August 2026 at the Language Commons, bringing together 20 students from across the University to design language learning tools using generative AI and producing 5 working prototypes in just three hours.   Read more
