English Courses

LANG1402 builds the academic English skills you need to succeed at university. You will learn to communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence, find and use credible sources, and develop the independent learning habits essential for your studies and future career. This is an English for Academic Purpose (EAP) course with a primary focus on language development and proficiency. 

• Learn through research: you will investigate a topic that interests you, gathering and evaluating credible sources, and communicating your findings through both a written report and an informative presentation. This project-based approach mirrors the academic tasks you'll encounter throughout your university studies.
• Master both writing and speaking academic communication: you will produce a research report and deliver an informative presentation, gaining the precision, confidence, and audience engagement skills valued in academic and professional settings.
• Become an independent learner: You will take ownership of your progress through goal setting, peer evaluation, and self-reflection. You will build the metacognitive strategies that make you an effective learner across all your university courses.

• Required course for first year Pathway 1 students.
• Students are pre-registered into different streams based on their English language proficiency upon admission to HKUST.
