Ren Tao joined the Center for Language Education (CLE), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in 2012. He played a leading role in language curriculum management at CLE, serving successively as Academic Lead for Chinese and Third Languages, then Coordinator of Chinese Curriculum and Pedagogy, from 2020 to 2025. He also led the restructuring of the Chinese Communication Common Core program at HKUST.

He has developed various Chinese courses and experiential learning programs for students across the university. He teaches a variety of Chinese Communication, Chinese as a Second Language, and Cantonese courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and overseas. He has also fostered the professional development of CLE teaching-track faculty by designing and implementing external collaboration and exchange programs. As Coordinator of Global Engagement, he currently spearheads CLE international collaborative initiatives.
