Japanese courses are offered through two pathways. Students should choose one pathway at each level according to their background, learning needs and preferred study mode. 

How should I choose? 

Choose the Full Course Path if you prefer: 

• one integrated 3-credit course; 

• regular face-to-face learning across the semester; 

• balanced training in listening, speaking, reading and writing; 

• a faster and more intensive learning pace. 

Choose the Bite-Sized Course Path if you prefer: 

• shorter 8-week courses; 

• more flexible learning; 

• separate focus on communication and grammar/vocabulary; 

• a Pass/Fail course format; 

• a more accessible starting point as an absolute beginner. 

Important rule 

Students should choose only one pathway at the same level. 

For example: 

• Students should not take LANG1210 together with LANG1211/LANG1212, as these courses cover overlapping Level 1 content. 

• Students should not take LANG2200 together with LANG2201/LANG2202, as these courses cover overlapping Level 2 content. 

However, students may change pathway when moving to the next level, subject to prerequisites and appropriate proficiency.
