Chinese Courses

This course prepares students for an intermediate to advanced level of spoken and written Chinese, equipping them with strong communicative competence in using Chinese in various working, social, and professional situations. The topics covered include cultural and social themes such as festivals, environmental issues, and job interview practice. 

• Classroom learning connected to real-world scenarios to foster practical application  

• Communication skills strengthened through interactive and collaborative activities 

• Diverse feedback resources improve students’ ability to monitor and evaluate learning 

• Oral Assessment 1: Design attractive travel packages for targeted customers.

• Oral Assessment 2: Convince others of your qualifications for a professional role in Hong Kong or China.

• Other tasks: Online checkpoint tasks and Review Quizzes 1 & 2

Attributes 

• Non-Chinese language background students who have previously learnt Mandarin Chinese for up to 300 tuition hours, or who have achieved a proficiency level of HSK 3 

Exclusions 

• LANG 1113, LANG 1117-1118, LANG 1124-1127 (prior to 2022-23) 

• LANG 1413, LANG 1416, LANG 1421-1426, LANG 1515  

Course outcomes

Communicate confidently and show cultural awareness in job interviews and when talking about themes such as Chinese culture and environmental issues, with more advanced vocabulary and grammar.
