Chinese Courses

This course will equip students with Chinese communicative competence in daily and social situations at the proficiency level of HSK 2. Topics include asking for directions, seeing a doctor, renting an apartment, and talking about dining, sports, travel, etc. 

• Interactive online learning tasks on Canvas for preparation and consolidation 

• Practical topics with paired and cooperative learning and diverse learning support 

• Oral Assessments 1 & 2: Engage in a monologue and a dialogue with the instructor about the topics covered in the course 

• Other tasks: Learning tasks, and midterm and end-of-course written tests 

Attributes 

• Non-Chinese language background students who have previously learnt Mandarin Chinese for up to 100 tuition hours, or who have achieved a proficiency level of HSK 1 

Exclusions 

• LANG 1113, LANG 1117-1118, LANG 1122-1127 (prior to 2022-23)  

• LANG 1412-1413, LANG 1415-1416, LANG 1421-1426, LANG 1513-1515 

Course outcomes 

• Improved ability to engage in clear and appropriate spoken and written Chinese on everyday topics
