In this academic year, multiple workshops and “workshops on the run” in the first and second semesters have focused on training students to be able to speak Cantonese in everything they can say in Mandarin. This term, the focus is on training students to understand social Cantonese that cannot be spoken in Mandarin, such as street Cantonese and restaurant Cantonese.
Practicing Cantonese by singing Cantonese pop songs can help students become familiar with the pitch, rise and fall, and length of words. The lyrics of singer Sam Hui‘s movie theme song are in social Cantonese and can be used as a textbook.
I categorized social Cantonese into eight topics and trained students in each workshop so that they could strike up a conversation when they heard Hong Kong people talking to each other, and thus integrate into the lives of the locals.
本學年上下學期多次工作坊和路邊工作坊著重訓練到學生凡能用普通話說的都能用廣東話說,今次著重訓練到學生聽懂普通話不能說的社交粵語,例如街頭粵語和車站播報粵語。
