SPW-041-001

Date: Wednesday, 25 October 2023
Time: 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Registration: 15 September to 18 October

Room 5504 (Lifts 25/26)

This 2-hour workshop will help participants understand that their voice is an instrument or tool that they could probably use more effectively in presentations and public speaking. The workshop will introduce two basic but important aspects of speech/sound production – breathing and resonance. Participants will explore ways of using their voices more efficiently, but also how they might make their voices easier and more pleasant to listen to. They will practice vocal delivery strategies for engaging and impacting their audience, including varying tone, volume and pace, putting emphasis on key words, and using pausing effectively.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

1. Understand how we speak and how sound can be produced more efficiently.

2. Have techniques for continuing to practice and develop their voice quality.

3. Use vocal delivery strategies, such as varying tone, volume and pace, putting emphasis on key words, and pausing effectively, to engage and impact their audience.
